“Wild Horses … couldn’t drag me away…”
What an amazing sight to see horses running freely on the range. The sounds of the pounding hoofs, the nickers and neighing to each other. A tight formation of smooth-muscled animals, displaying both grace and power. Oh, what beauty!

A birdhouse surrounded by roses

A sweet birdhouse surrounded by pink roses.

A sweet little birdhouse on a white picket fence, surrounded by pretty pink roses.

I wonder if the birds can smell the sweet scent of the flowers inside their home?

I wonder, too, if the thorns of the rosebush help keep predators away. I hope so.

Red horse barn with horses gathered for conversation.

Red horse barn with horses gathered for conversation.

A barnyard scene of horses gathered together in what appears to be a “coffee klatch”.

A bright red horse barn, with green trees beyond it, and an intimate group of horses hanging out together just called to be painted.
I love the over-the-shoulder look of the horse closest to us, and the swishing tail.

Empty Nest

Empty Nest

Empty Nest.

Empty Nest.

A very simple image, but one that can carry several interpretations.

What drew me to paint this scene was a feeling of sadness for the family of this bird’s nest that had fallen from the safety of a nook on the corner of a house. I hope that the baby birds for whom it was built had already flown off to follow their own adventures.

For any “Empty Nesters” out there, this one’s for you.
A little blue, a little sombre, a little quiet, but with appreciation for the home you built, the warmth and coziness you provided, the love you gave.
Thank you, on behalf of your little ones.

Two white egrets in a choreographed mating dance, with furled wings and droplets of water spraying, Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel Island, Florida.

On one of my trips to the Ding Darling National Wildlife refuge, located on Sanibel island in Florida, I was treated to an amazing mating dance between these two birds. These white egrets would bob and motion to each other, and then suddenly leap into the air. It was an amazing thing to watch, and I just had to capture it in a painting; the light on their white feathers, against the dark mangrove background, the reflections in the water, the water droplets from their flying feet. I was blessed that morning to share in such an intimate animal interaction.

If You Are Drawn to the Owl (Or in some cases, if they are drawn to you!)-

“The owl’s gift of heightened senses enables it to see through deception, external appearances and illusion and to discover hidden truths.

If you are drawn to owls or owl symbolism, you may have this same ability to uncover secrets. People may feel uneasy around you, as if you are able to see through pretense. The owl also teaches us to acknowledge the dark side of our personality, and in that darkness we may find food for growth.

If people do not speak words that reflect the truth of their actions and motives, owl medicine (as referred to by aboriginal cultures) will guide you with vision and inner knowing to reveal the truth. The owl puts an end to doubt and offers vision and clarity of the truth of events, people or circumstances in your life.”
